ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays completed a one-year Major League deal to add right-hander Ryan Webb on Thursday.
Webb, 30, went 1-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 40 games for the Indians in 2015. In his seven-year Major League career, he has also spent time with the Padres, Marlins, and Orioles, compiling a 17-18 record with a 3.35 ERA in 357 career appearances.
Webb is primarily a ground-ball pitcher and could be a nice addition to the bullpen for Tampa Bay.
"Signing Ryan Webb today helps [the bullpen]," said Matt Silverman, Rays president of baseball operations. "Another established veteran arm. A guy who gives us a little bit of a different look. A ground-ball guy. And we haven't had someone like that in a couple of years. That's a nice element to have."
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rays placed right-hander Chase Whitley on the 60-day disabled list. Whitley is recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery performed in May.
