Archer, Strickland sharp in intrasquad game

The day wasn’t a total loss; the Rays played an intrasquad game in the morning. Right-hander Chris Archer’s slider and changeup were effective during the game.

According to manager Kevin Cash, reliever Hunter Strickland stood out. Strickland was really quick to the plate, so he significantly altered the hitter’s timing.

Right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who was scheduled to pitch in Saturday’s game, threw three innings in a live batting practice session. He threw electric stuff, according to Cash.

“It was kind of unfair to do it in a cage setting. He was probably one of the few guys we don’t need to worry about,” Cash said. “… He was throwing 99 miles [per] hour. It was fun to watch when he is in the zone, throwing strikes.”

The Rays travel to Fort Myers to play the Twins on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET. Watch or listen live at MLB.TV. They will face each other for the third time this spring. The Twins and Rays have won a game apiece.
