Red Sox Acquire LHP Jake Bennett from Washington Nationals

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett from the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Luis Perales.

Bennett, 25, has posted a 2.67 ERA (41 ER/138.1 IP) with 137 strikeouts in 34 games (33 starts) across three levels in 2023 and 2025. Selected by the Washington Nationals in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native in 2025 pitched in two games (two starts) for Single-A Fredericksburg, seven games (all starts) for High-A Wilmington, and 10 games (nine starts) for Double-A Harrisburg. The left-hander is ranked as a Nationals top prospect by Baseball America (No. 6) and MLB.com (No. 11) and appeared in five games (four starts) for the Arizona Fall League’s Scottsdale Scorpions this fall.

Perales, 22, began the season on the minor league injured list due to recovery from Tommy John surgery. He made his season debut for Double-A Portland on September 13 and made his Triple-A debut with Worcester on September 17. Originally signed as an international free agent in July 2019, the Venezuela native owns a 3.31 ERA (60 ER/163.1 IP) in 47 career minor league games (43 starts). The right-hander started six games for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League in 2025 and is currently ranked as a Red Sox top prospect by Baseball America (No. 5) and MLB.com (No. 7).
