The Reds traded Minor League pitcher Franderlyn Romero to the Orioles in exchange for two international signing bonus slots.
Romero, 23, has spent his entire professional career in the Reds' organization since signing with the club in 2010 out of Venezuela. He owns a 15-25 record and a 3.07 ERA through 78 games (62 starts) in the Minors.
The right-hander is off to a strong start in 2016, recording a 2.87 ERA through eight starts with Class A Dayton.
The international bonus slots received by the Reds are for the current signing cycle. The extra money should ensure the Reds enter the next cycle with no penalties so they can take advantage of one of the largest bonus pools in baseball.
This marks the second trade the Orioles completed Monday. They also dealt left-hander Brian Matusz to the Braves for a pair of Minor League pitching prospects.
