Jeff charts where every homer has landed at Petco Park since the Padres downtown home opened in 2004. I trust Jeff ... almost all the time.
Which brings us to Wednesday night and Hunter Renfroe's 435-foot launch onto the roof of the Western Metal Supply     Co. Building.
The Padres say it was the first home run ever hit onto the roof.
And I say that is wrong. I remember Khalil Greene hitting one onto the roof. And remember Albert Pujols hitting one that landed on the roof.
I could be wrong. I'm 71. I have a hard time remembering what I had for breakfast. But I remember two roof shots. And I'm not alone. But, again, I could be wrong . . . which is the kind of debate that makes baseball so enjoyable.
I reached out to Ted Leitner Thursday morning and he, too, remembered two previous roof shots. Without telling him who I thought had previously reached the roof, Ted said Greene and Pujols . . . and said he had talked about it Wednesday night after Renfroe's shot.
The Padres chart shows Renfroe being the first. I'm now willing to say Praught's chart is right 99.9 percent of the time. Greene reached the roof. I saw it. So did Ted. And you don't forget something like that . . . even with the passage of time.
Speaking of Renfroe, the rookie right fielder had a two-run single to go with his two-run homer Wednesday night. Following Tuesday's two-homer, seven-RBI game - Renfroe has 11 RBIs in back-to-back games.
The only Padre to ever have more than 11 RBIs in back-to-back games was Nate Colbert during his record-setting five-homer, 13-RBI doubleheader on Aug. 1, 1972, in Atlanta. Matt Kemp (on April 8-9 this year) and Ken Caminiti (in 1996) each had 10 RBIs in back-to-back games.
On six occasions, Padres hitters have had nine RBIs in back-to-back games (Ryan Klesko twice in 2001 and Caminiti, Brian Giles, Jack Clark and Chase Headley once apiece).
NOTES FROM THE SCOREBOOK:
--Third baseman Yangervis Solarte was 1-for-4 Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 13 straight games. Solarte is hitting .383 (18-for-47) during the streak with three doubles, 11 RBIs and four runs scored. The streak is the longest this season by a Padre.
--Hunter Renfroe's fourth homer in 21 at-bats extended the Padres' single-season record total to 176. They also have hit a Petco Park record 83 this season. The franchise record for home runs hit at home during a season is 87 at Qualcomm Stadium in both 1992 and 1993.
--Left-handed reliever Brad Hand struck out the side Wednesday night in his Major League-leading 81st appearance of the season. Hand also leads the Major Leagues in innings pitch by a reliever (87 2/3) and ranks fourth with 109 strikeouts. Over his last dozen appearances, Hand has allowed one run on three hits and two walks with 14 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings to lower his earned run average from 3.07 to 2.77.
