River Turtles complete sweep of State Liners with 10-4 win

July 10th, 2021

The Pulaski River Turtles completed the sweep with a 10-4 victory over the Bristol State Liners on Friday night. Pulaski continued their success, still standing atop the East at 18-11. Bristol fell to 15-12 now on the season but still stands at second due to a loss by Elizabethton.

Bristol attacked quick, scoring a run in the first to give them the 1-0 lead. This would be Bristol’s only lead of the game as Pulaski would answer back in the second by scoring two. The first run would come off an RBI double by Irvin Escobar, and the second would be a walk of Ross Lovich with the bases loaded and bring in Escobar. This would make the game 2-0 after the second.

Just like Thursday, Pulaski would have a dominant inning, but this time in the fourth, scoring five runs. The first run scored was courtesy of an RBI double by Josh Rolling. Myles Smith would follow that up in the next at-bat with an RBI single to bring in Rolling. Cameron Leary walked with bases loaded to make the score 5-1. The final runs of the inning came from a two-RBI single by Garrett Rice and make the game 7-1 after four frames.

Bristol would add a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to five, but Ross Lovich would take that away with a solo shot over the left-center field wall in the bottom half to make it 8-2 at that stage.

Pulaski added a pair of runs in the sixth. Irvin Escobar hit an RBI double and bring in John Bay. On the same play, an overthrow to first would bring in Garrett Rice, who was already at third. This made the score 10-2 after the sixth.

Bristol would tag on a pair of runs in the seventh but that wouldn’t be enough to come back.

The win went to Luke Reed, as he went 3 1/3 innings and allowed only two hits, two runs, two walks and struck out four. The loss went to Jake DeLisi. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowed five hits, six runs and walked four.

Player of the game goes to Irvin Escobar. He went 3-for-4, with all three of those hits being doubles. Escobar would add two runs and two RBIs as well.

Up next, Bristol goes back home to face the Princeton WhistlePigs (17-11). Pulaski now goes on a four-game road trip, starting with a series against the Bluefield Ridge Runners (14-15) on Saturday.
