River Turtles fall to Princeton in inaugural home opener

June 6th, 2021

The Pulaski River Turtles' first ever home opener was spoiled, as the River Turtles fall to the Princeton WhistlePigs, 6-3. The River Turtles struggles continue as they fall to 0-3 on the season. The WhistlePigs continue their success as they stay undefeated and go to 3-0.

The WhistlePigs started the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. The River Turtles came back with one run in the bottom of the fourth, but the WhistlePigs continued their scoring with two runs in both the top of the sixth and seventh innings. The final runs in the game came from the River Turtles in the bottom of the eighth as second baseman Connor Gore hit a two-run homer to the old scoreboard in right-center field.

Justin Showalter comes out with the win with only one earned run and four strikeouts through four innings. Kevin Eaise comes out with the loss with four hits and one run through five innings.

One of the highlights in the game for the River Turtles was from Paco Hernandez, clutching up in the top of the eighth. Hernandez faced bases loaded twice and saved a potential game clinching inning by recording two fielder's choices at home plate. This helped Hernandez come out of the eighth unscathed.

The River Turtles hope to bounce back tomorrow where they have a rematch with the WhistlePigs, the second of a two-game series.
