D-backs lefty Ray exits with strained oblique

WASHINGTON -- D-backs starting pitcher Robbie Ray exited Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals in the second inning with a right oblique strain.
In a scoreless game with one out in the bottom of the second, Ray signaled to the dugout immediately after tossing a first-pitch ball to Nationals catcher Matt Wieters. The left-hander grabbed at his right side during a brief conversation with the training staff before leaving. Ray, 26, entered 2-0 with a 5.13 ERA in five starts. In his previous outing, Ray allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision at Philadelphia. He went 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA last season.
Reliever T.J. McFarland inherited the 1-0 count and surrendered a solo home run to Wieters and an unearned run as the Nationals built a 2-0 lead.
