September 7th, 2021

The accolades keep rolling in for Blue Jays left-hander , while Cubs first baseman ’s storybook run is showing no sign of slowing down. The two were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet on Tuesday.

All-time winners: AL | NL

Ray had two more dominant outings last week, striking out 20 batters with four walks and allowing only two runs on five hits over 13 2/3 innings in a pair of wins. Ray, who also won the AL Pitcher of the Month Award for August, owns a 1.70 ERA across 12 starts since the beginning of July.

This is the second career Player of the Week Award for the 29-year-old. Ray earned NL honors as a member of the D-backs in 2016.

Schwindel, a veteran of eight Minor League seasons, was claimed off waivers from the A’s in July and was given a chance to earn regular playing time after the Cubs traded Anthony Rizzo to the Yankees. The 29-year-old has seized the opportunity.

Last week was his best yet, as he hit .462 with five homers, 12 RBIs and a 1.538 OPS over six games, all Cubs wins. The right-handed slugger has posted a .374 average, 10 homers, 30 RBIs and a 1.120 OPS in 33 games as a member of the Cubs.
