GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Roberto Pena's two-out single to left-center field scored two runs and gave the White Sox a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Giants on Sunday at Camelback Ranch. Pena's hit came off reliever Steven Okert.
Ty Blach, a leading contender for the Giants' fifth starter's spot, allowed two runs over six innings, allowing seven hits with a walk and a strikeout.
"He was awesome, pounding the zone," Giants catcher Tim Federowicz said. "He did a great job of keeping the ball inside, not really giving in."
James Shields, who already has locked down the second spot in the White Sox rotation, yielded three runs on eight hits over his five innings pitched. The right-hander struck out two and walked three.
San Francisco scored all three of its runs in the second inning. Federowicz, who has had a good spring, singled home a run and Eduardo Nunez doubled home two. The White Sox scored two in the fifth on Geovany Soto's double and Peter Bourjos' RBI groundout.
"I mean, they battled me out there," Shields said. "They had a bunch of foul-offs today, and the second inning was my bad inning. I was up in the zone a little bit and they were taking advantage of it.
"Overall it wasn't too bad. They got my pitch count up. I think I had a couple of batters where there were 10-plus pitches. But overall I felt good, and I'm ready to move on."
