TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Rockies and Angels fought to a 6-6 deadlock on Friday at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
After the Rockies scored a go-ahead run in the eighth on an RBI groundout, the Angels tallied the equalizer in the ninth on a double-play grounder.
Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story each had two hits, and Jordan Lyles threw four scoreless innings in relief for the Rockies.
Rey Navarro hit his first home run and Yunel Escobar collected three hits for the Angels.
Lyles entered in the fifth -- after Antonio Senzatela started -- and held the Angels to two hits. He walked two and struck out one. Senzatela gave up two runs on four hits and a pair of walks in three innings in his first start and second appearance in the Cactus League.
"I didn't start the game, so it was a little different for me, but once you're out there, it's all the same," Lyles said. "It's good to bounce back and get some positive innings, results-wise."
Angels right-hander Garrett Richards continued to build toward an Opening Day start. He approached 75 pitches and gave up three runs on six hits and struck out three in five innings.
"A couple bloops are part of the game, that's fine, but it's about minimizing damage," said Richards, who continued to work on his changeup. "Flares are going to happen. Little dribblers are going to happen. But I didn't walk anybody and threw a lot of strikes, so that's a positive."
Arenado doubled and tripled in his three at-bats to raise his spring average to .600.
Up next for Rockies: Right-hander Tyler Chatwood will start for the Rockies against the Padres at Peoria, Ariz., at 2:10 p.m MT, live on MLB.TV and Gameday Audio. Lefty Boone Logan, who has battled elbow soreness this spring, will make his Cactus League debut. Logan is also scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Giants.
Up next for Angels: Non-roster invitee Yunesky Maya makes his first start this spring when the Angels host the Brewers at 1:10 p.m. PT, live on MLB.TV and Gameday Audio, on Saturday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. The right-hander has not allowed a run in six innings across four appearances this spring and has struck out seven. The Angels will face Brewers righty Wily Peralta.
