CarGo (shoulder) eyes Monday for return

Rockies outfielder hopes to bypass rehab assignment

July 1st, 2017

PHOENIX -- Rockies right fielder is pushing to return to the lineup on Monday, when he is eligible to return from the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.
Gonzalez's absence began when he was pulled from the 10-3 loss to the D-backs on June 22. Gonzalez knows he needs to improve (.221, 6 HR, 20 RBIs), but he believes he can help the team win. Watching the eight-game losing streak that ended Friday in a 6-3 win over the D-backs had been frustrating.
"I'm always so hard on myself; whenever the team is losing, I feel like it's my fault," Gonzalez said. "I'm not playing, and I feel like it's my fault because I'm not playing."
Gonzalez said he isn't interested in a Minor League rehab assignment.
"I already have over 200 at-bats, I've only missed a few games and I've been with the team the entire time," Gonzalez said. "It's not like I got away from baseball. I've been shagging, running the bases, doing a lot of exercises to keep my body at the same level."
Gonzalez took batting practice at Chase Field Friday afternoon and felt good. He said the injury occurred on a swing in the last game he played. He said he had been playing through soreness previously. He said the rest and strengthening have given him time to improve the shoulder's condition.
Worth noting:
• Lefty pitcher , out with a left knee injury, will have arthroscopic surgery Monday. It was previously announced he would have the procedure Friday.
• Outfielder , who hasn't played this season because of a stress reaction of the sixth rib that he suffered early in Spring Training, began hitting off a tee Thursday.
Dahl hit .315 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 63 games as a rookie last season.
He has recently spent time working out at the team's complex in Scottsdale, Ariz., and he worked out with the club at Chase Field on Friday.
"It's a weird injury kind of thing; when the scapula rolled over it, it would flare up all the time," Dahl said. "But now I feel I can swing with everything I've got. I'm doing a bunch of rotational drills in the weight room, mimicking swings. It's a pretty intense workout I've been doing for about two weeks."
Asked about fan concern, he said, "Yeah, I get the tweets."
• Second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who suffered a right groin cramp Tuesday night, took batting practice and ran at less-than-full intensity Friday. Manager Bud Black said LeMahieu could be back in the lineup in the next day or two.
• Outfielder , who suffered a right quadriceps injury on June 6, took batting practice and increased his activity Friday. There isn't a timetable on when he will return from the disabled list.
