CHICAGO -- The Cubs will get to savor Monday night's walk-off win a little longer. A heavy downpour at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night washed away the planned contest against the Rockies.
The postponement of the second tilt of this three-game series is scheduled to be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday. Chicago will host Colorado at 1:20 p.m. CT, followed by a 5:30 p.m. nightcap (seven innings apiece).
Zach Davies will start opposite Rockies righty Germán Márquez in Game 1 and Justin Steele will follow against lefty Austin Gomber in Game 2. Chicago is then scheduled to have a team off-day on Thursday, leading up to a Crosstown Series with the White Sox this weekend.
The rainout comes one night after the Cubs snapped a franchise-record 13-game losing streak at home via a two-run, walk-off homer by Rafael Ortega.
"That was nice," Cubs manager David Ross said on Tuesday afternoon. "It was just nice to see them experience that. It felt like, for the first time, it was like I was watching this group really have a special moment. It was fun.
"I think it was fun for everybody. The coaches were all excited and in a good mood. We hadn't heard, 'Go, Cubs, Go!' in a while, so it was nice."
Tickets for Tuesday's postponed game will be valid for the night game on Wednesday. Mobile tickets via the MLB Ballpark app will automatically update with the makeup game information. No ticket exchange is necessary).
The Cubs noted that separate tickets are required for each game on Wednesday, when fans will be asked to exit Wrigley Field after the completion of the first contest.
