PHOENIX -- To prepare for his Rockies debut, Ian Desmond played 14 innings in extended Spring Training Friday and Saturday. He nearly matched that on Sunday.
Desmond, who suffered a fractured left hand in March, started in left field and went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts in a13-inning, 2-0 loss to the D-backs on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field.
"I was pretty much ready for anything," Desmond said. "I was getting a little hungry there toward the end."
Desmond made hard contact on a couple of the outs he made. D-backs shortstop Nick Ahmed robbed him with a diving play to lead off the 10th.

"I felt like I was helping the team, which was good," Desmond said.
The Rockies signed Desmond for five years and $70 million and penciled him in at first base this year. But ' strong start means Desmond may have to move around for his opportunities. Desmond played shortstop with the Nationals for for seven seasons, and in left and center last season with the Rangers.
On Sunday, Desmond fielded 's drive off the left-field fence and nearly threw out Drury with a quick, strong throw to second
"That was nice to pencil his name in the lineup," said Rockies manager Bud Black. "The team was excited. Ian was excited. He hit the ball on the nose the second at-bat [his single] and had some good swings. He's going to be a huge addition for our club."
