CLEVELAND -- This was not how the 2017 Royals wanted to put themselves in the franchise record book.
But after getting beat, 12-0, by the Indians on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field and being shut out in all three games of the series, the Royals set a club record by not scoring in 34 consecutive innings.
It was indeed a weekend to flush.
"Yeah," Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield said. "Nothing else to it."

Added Royals manager Ned Yost, "Well, it just is what it is. You can get frustrated. But guys are just right now not producing. It's not in the amount of work that they're doing or that they're pressing. I don't sense that. We're just not getting the job done."
One consistent theme of this Royals team is that it gets hot together and cold together. There are rarely in-betweens.
"Obviously, you want to be a little more consistent," Merrifield said. "But it's over. There's nothing we can do about it now. Fly home, regroup, try to go get Tampa."
There was some agreement, too, that each Royal was taking it upon himself to jumpstart the offense.

"Guys are just trying to do a little too much," Merrifield said. "We all know we're struggling. Guys want to step up and spark the team. We know we haven't scored a run in however long it's been. I think guys are trying to take it upon themselves a little too much and just trying to do a little too much."
Yost said repeatedly in the past few days that this offensive slump didn't feel like the dreadful one in April.
"It just feels different to me," Yost said. "I felt like we were pressing in April, and I don't feel like we're doing that now. We're just not producing."
