June 14th, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO -- Adding veteran depth, the Giants announced Monday that they signed infielder Ruben Tejada to a Minor League contract.
Tejada, spent the first six of his seven Major League seasons with the New York Mets. He has played primarily shortstop, logging 438 games at that spot. He also has played 121 games at second base and 29 at third.
Considered an above-average defender, Tejada ranked second in range factor per nine innings among National League shortstops in 2014. He ranked third in 2012 and second in 2014 in fielding percentage among NL shortstops.
Tejada's a .254 career hitter with 10 home runs in 603 games. He owns a .328 lifetime on-base percentage and a .322 slugging percentage.
Tejada suffered a broken right fibula in the National League Division Series last season when Chase Utley slid into him attempting to break up a double play. Released by the Mets during Spring Training on March 16, Tejada signed with St. Louis three days later before being released by the Cardinals on June 1.
