PHOENIX -- Maybe the Diamondbacks deserved a little bit of a break with the way the last nine days have gone.
Tuesday night, after their offense was shut down for seven innings, the Diamondbacks rallied for three runs in the eighth and another two in the ninth to walk off the Cubs, 5-4, at Chase Field.
Ryan Waldschmidt delivered the decisive blow with a two-out, two-run pinch-hit homer off Jacob Webb. He became the only player with multiple walk-off home runs when trailing this year.
Clay Holmes dominated the Diamondbacks, allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings while the Cubs managed a three-run homer from Ian Happ in the fourth and an RBI single by Michael Busch in the sixth to build their 4-0 lead.
The D-backs made it a 4-3 game in the eighth against Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia thanks in large part to a two-out check-swing RBI double by Gabriel Moreno that ricocheted off the first-base bag. Geraldo Perdomo plated two runs with a single to center one batter later.
In the ninth, Tim Tawa drew a one-out walk, and one out later, Waldschmidt, who was pinch-hitting for Jorge Barrosa, delivered the game-winner.
