August 7th, 2021

One of the game’s biggest storylines this year has been the emergence of Angels two-way star . The 27-year-old Japanese phenomenon is doing everything possible on a baseball field. He’s hitting home runs. He’s striking out batters. He’s even swiping bases. What Ohtani has done has truly never been seen before.

He has already broken the record for the most home runs by a Japanese-born player in a single season. He was the first player in All-Star Game history to both start on the mound and hit leadoff. And there’s still two months' worth of the regular season to be played. To say that this year has been historic for Ohtani would be an understatement.

Join MLB Network’s Tom Verducci as he takes you through Ohtani’s journey to superstardom, from his early days as an 18-year-old with the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan to his record-breaking 2021 performance with Los Angeles. There’s plenty of time left for Ohtani to break some more records, so sit back and enjoy the Sho.
