TORONTO -- Stephen Brooks has resigned as the Blue Jays' senior vice president of business operations, according to multiple MLB.com sources.
The news of Brooks' departure was first reported by Sportsnet and has since been confirmed by MLB.com. Toronto has yet to publicly comment on Brooks' situation, and it's not clear when the club intends to replace him.
Contrary to the initial news, Brooks was not dismissed from his position and instead decided to leave, according to multiple sources. Brooks had been the senior vice president of business operations since 2011, and prior to that, he was the VP of finance and administration.
Brooks was responsible for all business operations of the Blue Jays, including ticket sales, marketing, game entertainment, stadium operations, corporate partnerships and events. He recently oversaw the installation of the dirt infield at Rogers Centre, which had been previously planned under former president Paul Beeston.
The seasoned executive was active on social media, often responding to fans' questions about ticket sales and in-game entertainment, and he provided regular updates throughout the installation process of the dirt infield.
Brooks was considered the second in charge during Beeston's tenure. Beeston retired at the end of the 2015 season, and the Blue Jays hired Mark Shapiro as his replacement and later added Ross Atkins to the front office as general manager.
