Torkelson homers twice in return

Welcome back, .

After missing the past four games with hamstring tightness, MLB Pipeline's No. 3 overall prospect made an immediate impact in his return to the Whitecaps' lineup as he bashed a pair of three-run jacks to power High-A West Michigan's 17-5 drubbing of Lake County at LMCU Ballpark on Saturday night.

The dingers were the first for Torkelson at the club's home ballpark and brought his tater tally on the season to three in 18 games. The top overall pick in the 2020 Draft also set a career-high with six RBIs, and his two runs scored brought his total to 10 on the year.

The 21-year-old got in the hit column with a laser that deflected off the shortstop's glove and went into left field in the fourth inning. Two frames later, with two on and one out, Torkelson put West Michigan ahead for good with his first three-run blast of the night that was hammered well beyond the fence in left-center field.

In the eighth, the Arizona State product capped his club's scoring with a moonshot back to left-center that ricocheted off the scoreboard. It was the second three-hit performance for Torkelson in his last four games. He is now sporting a .246/.386/.415 slash line with five extra-base hits and 17 RBIs.
