Arguably the most prolific offensive outfield duo throughout the 2017 regular season continues to be recognized for its incredible achievements. Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna, the Marlins' 1-2 punch, were named National League co-Players of the Week on Monday.
Stanton earned the honor for the third time this season, while it was the second such award for Ozuna as the dynamic middle-of-the-lineup sluggers helped propel Miami to a 4-2 record against the Mets and D-backs over the past seven days.
Stanton blasted three home runs, giving him 57 for the season and an improved chance at becoming the first player since Barry Bonds (73) and Sammy Sosa (64) in 2001 to reach the 60-homer threshold. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Stanton went 8-for-23 (.348) with a double, seven walks, six runs scored and 13 RBIs in six games over the course of the week.

Said Marlins manager Don Mattingly of Stanton: "He's a guy who is capable of hitting two [home runs] every night, pretty much."

Ozuna matched his teammate with three long balls while also going 10-for-20 (.500) with a double, six walks, six runs scored and seven RBIs. The 26-year-old All-Star, who finished the week with 118 RBIs on the season, had a legitimate chance to set Miami's franchise record for RBIs in a season if it weren't for Stanton, who is up to 126 for the year, five more than Preston Wilson had in 2000.
Ozuna has put together a magnificent season at the dish, hitting .308/.374/.548 with 36 home runs in 153 games.
"Marcell has been consistent all year long, day in, day out," Mattingly said.
Both players rank near the top in all of baseball in numerous offensive statistical categories. Stanton is tied with the Rockies' Nolan Arenado for the league lead in RBIs, while Ozuna ranks fourth. Stanton leads the Majors in homers; Ozuna is 12th. And Stanton ranks fourth in the game with a 1.013 OPS, while Ozuna's .921 mark is good for 18th.
Each player is expected to garner his fair share of NL Most Valuable Player Award votes in a loaded field.
"I like two of our guys," Mattingly said. "I know 'G' gets a lot of attention, but Marcell has been unbelievable also."
