KANSAS CITY -- Nothing like a routine 7-8 flyout.
The Guardians avoided a major miscue in Saturday’s 13-1 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium that instead ended in an inning-ending catch thanks to a little teamwork.
With two outs in the second, Cleveland's left fielder Steven Kwan and center fielder Myles Straw were heading in each other’s direction on a fly ball to left-center field from Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino. Neither heard the other call for the ball, resulting in both gloves going up to make the catch.
The soft collision between the players caused the ball to pop off Kwan’s glove and go straight up in the air. But Straw never took his eye off the ball, and regrouped quick enough to still easily make the catch -- even if it was in an unconventional manner.
Avoiding disaster, Straw and Kwan jogged off the field with grins on their faces.
"That was definitely unique," Kwan said. "That was cool.”
