Here is what you need to know about this matchup.
Rangers at Tigers, 7:20 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBCSN
Despite a 16-17 start to the season, the Rangers sit just one game back in the AL West. Their offense has struggled for the bulk of the year, but third baseman Josh Jung is doing everything he can to lift the lineup. He is batting .327 with a .930 OPS through 110 at-bats this season. Seager is batting just .212, but his six homers are tied with Jake Burger for the team lead.
Jack Leiter will be on the mound for the Rangers, and he is hoping to get on track after allowing a total of 15 earned runs over his past 20 1/3 innings pitched. However, if Leiter can keep the score close, the Rangers have an advantage with their bullpen in the late innings. That group leads with the Majors with a 2.63 ERA and is limiting hitters to a .213 average.
Speaking of bullpens, the Tigers will employ a bullpen game for this contest, with left-hander Tyler Holton getting the start. Like the Rangers, Detroit (17-17) is also one game back in its division. Outfielder Kerry Carpenter and catcher Dillon Dingler have provided some power, with six homers each, and first baseman Spencer Torkelson recently went on a five-game homer binge.
But the man to watch in the Motor City right now is McGonigle. He entered the year as MLB's No. 2 prospect and has more than lived up to the hype. He has posted a .310/.404/.476 slash line through 128 at-bats. He leads the team with 15 extra-base hits, and he has matching strikeout and walk rates (13.0%). Not too bad for a 21-year-old who is a little more than a month into his MLB career.
