Mariners, Astros meet in an AL West showdown on Sunday Night Baseball (NBC, 7:20 ET)

August 16th, 2026

NBC and Peacock will be your home for Sunday Night Baseball throughout 2026.

This week's spotlight game features Yordan Alvarez and the Astros hosting Julio Rodríguez and the Mariners at Daikin Park in Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET.

Here is what you need to know about this matchup.

Mariners at Astros, 7:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock

Despite entering Sunday's game with a 5-5 mark in their past 10 games, the Astros remain atop the AL West at 63-61. The Mariners, on the other hand, have cooled off of late, going 3-7 to fall into third place in the division at 58-66. Sunday's showdown is the rubber match of the three-game set.

Everyone knows to keep their eyes on Alvarez when the Astros are playing. The AL MVP frontrunner continues to lead the Junior Circuit in homers with 36 -- one more than Junior Caminero of the Rays -- and MLB in OPS at 1.058 by a wide margin (Shohei Ohtani is second at .930).

The Mariners, meanwhile, have struggled on offense -- something that has plagued them all season -- scoring 32 runs in their past 10 contests; although they are coming off a 10-5 win on Saturday. They hope to get Rodríguez and, especially, Cal Raleigh swinging hotter bats if they're going to make a playoff push.

The pitching matchup is one to watch, as Houston will start Hunter Brown (3.68 ERA, 9.5 K/9 in 12 starts). Fellow right-hander Bryan Woo (4.15 ERA, 9.0 K/9 in 23 starts) gets the ball for Seattle.
