Phillies release Taijuan Walker amid 8-game slide

The Phillies released right-hander on Thursday morning, the day after the veteran starter allowed five runs (four earned) over four innings in a 7-2 loss to the Cubs. The defeat extended Philadelphia's losing streak to eight games.

Walker, 33, is in the final season of a four-year, $72 million deal he signed with the Phillies in December 2022. He went 1-4 with a 9.13 ERA in five games (four starts) for the Phillies this year, allowing a Major League-high 23 earned runs. Walker finishes his Philly tenure with a 24-25 record, a 5.12 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP over 89 appearances.

Right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and right-hander was optioned to Triple-A in additional moves.
