Rangers call up Colon to start tonight

ARLINGTON -The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions:
--Selected the contract of RHP (#40) from Triple-A Round Rock.
--Optioned RHP to Round Rock to make room for Colon on the 25-man roster.
--Transferred RHP from the 10-day to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Colon on the 40-man roster.
--Announced that 1B Tommy Joseph, who cleared waivers on Saturday, has accepted an outright assignment to Double-A Frisco.
Colon will start for the Rangers on Monday night at Oakland at the age of 44 years, 313 days, the oldest Major League player in 2018 and the second oldest player to ever appear in a game for Texas to Nolan Ryan (46 years, 234 days in final career start on Sept. 22, 1993 at Seattle). Texas becomes the 11th different team for which Colon has appeared in a regular season game, the 8th in the American League, the latter an all-time record.
Gardewine was recalled on Saturday and allowed 2 runs in 3.0 innings in two appearances with Texas. Rodriguez opened the season on the DL with right biceps tendinitis. Joseph was claimed on waivers from Philadelphia on March 19, optioned to Frisco on March 23, and designated for assignment on March 29.
