HOUSTON -- Tanner Gardner didn't take it personally when Hunter Hargrove was walked intentionally, bringing Gardner up with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning of a tied game.
Gardner responded with an infield single that glanced off the leg of pitcher Hunter Newman (0-1), giving Texas Tech an exciting 5-4 walk-off win over LSU in Sunday's first of three college games in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic.
"It was a blast [getting the game winner]. Those guys getting on in front of me is huge," said Gardner, whose second hit of the game brought in Cody Farhat, who entered as a pinch-runner in the seventh inning and scored twice. "We did the things we had to do to win the ballgame."

Fourth-ranked LSU (9-3), which went 1-2 in the six-team classic at Minute Maid Park, tied the game with a run in the top of the ninth. Pinch-runner Beau Jordan scored from third base on Parker Mushinski's wild pitch.
Eric Walker started for LSU, which put together a two-run seventh to take a 3-1 lead. The 21st-ranked Red Raiders (11-2) came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.
Connor Beck had three of Texas Tech's 11 hits. John McMillon (1-0), who pitched one-third of an inning, got the win. Texas Tech starter Ryan Shetter allowed one run and three hits over five innings. For LSU, Antoine Duplantis had two of the Tigers' eight hits and drove in two runs.

After being hammered 9-0 by Texas A&M on Friday, the Red Raiders, who played in last year's College World Series, won their final two games in the classic.
"It's real important to respond," Texas Tech coach Tim Tadlock said. "More than anything, play the game the right way, and Friday we weren't real good fundamentally."
