Barnette back from DL; Leclerc optioned

April 27th, 2018

The Rangers on Friday announced that they've activated right-hander Tony Barnette from the 10-day disabled list (back inflammation) and optioned right-hander to Triple-A Round Rock.

Barnette tossed an inning of live batting practice on Tuesday in what was his first action since April 14. He was expected to be activated ahead of this weekend's series against the Blue Jays if all went well. Barnette was eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday, but the club was off Thursday. Over two outings, he has given up two unearned runs and a walk.

Leclerc, an optionable arm, has yet to give up a run in 6 2/3 innings over five outings this year. He's given up just one hit and three walks, with six strikeouts, but he hasn't pitched in many high-leverage situations.

Texas' bullpen, which is carrying eight arms, has accumulated 95 innings in 2018, second most in the American League, and compiled a 4.36 ERA.
