WASHINGTON -- More reinforcements are on the way for the Nationals, as shortstop Trea Turner will be activated from the disabled list for today's game against the Marlins, manager Dusty Baker announced after Monday's 11-2 victory at Nationals Park.
The Nationals have been without Turner, their leadoff hitter, since June 29 when he sustained a non-displaced fracture in his right wrist. Washington transferred him to the 60-day DL earlier this month, so today is the first time he is eligible to be reinstated.
Turner is set to return to a Nationals team that is inching closer to full strength. Max Scherzer and Jayson Werth returned from the DL on Monday and immediately contributed. Scherzer tossed seven innings of one-run ball, while Werth went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.
"Slowly but surely," Werth said. "We've still got some time. We need to get this thing rolling and get the synergy to where we want it and get everybody rolling again. But [it] looks like that's gonna happen, so that's exciting."

In his third season with Washington, Turner had posted a slash line of .279/.324/.422 with seven home runs and 35 stolen bases in 68 games. He also spent time on the DL in April with a strained right hamstring, but he was beginning to find his groove at the plate in June before the wrist injury.
The last thing Turner's wrist prevented him from doing during his rehab assignment was swing a bat, and he had acknowledged that his timing might take a while to come back. Turner spent the past seven games on a Minor League rehab assignment, going 2-for-21.

But a healthy Turner can be a difference maker for the Nationals, setting the tone atop the lineup for a club that has already scored double-digit runs a Major League-best 20 times this season.
"Trea will be welcomed," Scherzer said. "We know what he can bring to the table and how he benefits our ballclub."
