A's recall Cahill, Trivino from Triple-A

OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitchers Trevor Cahill and Lou Trivino from Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. The A's also designated outfielder Trayce Thompson for assignment and placed right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit on the family medical emergency list.

Cahill was signed by the A's as a free agent March 19 and did not allow a run in two Cactus League appearances (5 IP), both in relief. He was optioned to Nashville March 28 and made two starts with the Sounds, going 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA and .121 opponents batting average. The 30-year-old right-hander struck out 10 batters in 9.2 innings but also walked seven. Cahill was originally selected by Oakland in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft, made his Major League debut in 2009 at 21 years old, and went 40-35 with a 3.91 ERA in 96 starts over three seasons with the A's before he was traded to Arizona following the 2011 season. He is 33-44 with a 4.29 ERA in 187 games, 92 starts, in six seasons since then.

Trivino had a save in three appearances with Nashville and has retired all 13 batters that he has faced, eight by strikeout. He was added the A's 40-man roster this past off season and logged a 1.93 ERA in four spring training appearances. The 26-year-old right-hander combined for an 8-3 record, five saves and a 3.03 ERA in 48 relief appearances with Nashville and Double-A Midland last year. Trivino was originally selected by Oakland in the 11th round of the 2013 draft and is 30-27 with nine saves and a 3.92 ERA in 169 games over six professional seasons.

Thompson was claimed off waivers by the A's from the New York Yankees on April 5 and went 1-for-7 (.143) with four strikeouts in three games with Oakland. He was with the Los Angeles Dodgers this spring, was designated for assignment March 27 and claimed off waivers by the Yankees April 3.

Petit has appeared in 10 games, which is tied for the American League lead, and has a 3.00 ERA and .265 opponents batting average. He has not walked a batter in 12.0 innings
