Trevor Story is expected to be placed on the injured list before the Red Sox's game against the Braves on Saturday night, according to a report from MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo. The club has not confirmed the news.
The 33-year-old shortstop is believed to have been dealing with a groin issue since late April, though a reason for the IL stint has not yet been announced. Story has played in 41 of Boston's 44 games so far this season, hitting .206 with 19 RBIs and a .547 OPS.
The veteran Story is coming off his first fully healthy season with the Red Sox, having hit .263/.308/.433 with 25 home runs and 96 RBIs in 157 games. Before that, he had played in 163 games for the club across the 2022-24 seasons after signing with Boston as a free agent in March 2022.
