MINNEAPOLIS -- It's no secret Twins rookie Byron Buxton is one of the fastest players in the Majors, but now there's data to prove it.
Buxton showed off his impressive speed in the Twins' 7-4 win over the Brewers on Monday, as he hit a triple into the left-field corner in the fourth inning. Buxton went from home to third base in 10.75 seconds, which was the fastest time to third tracked by Statcast™ this season. It's also the second-fastest time dating back to the debut of Statcast™ last season, as Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier set the record last May by tripling in 10.65 seconds.
Buxton's triple came on a 1-1 changeup from Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson and scored Kurt Suzuki from first base with one out. The throw into the infield was cut off, as Buxton reached third easily, diving headfirst for his first triple of the season and the second of his career.
"When it left Buxton's bat we were all just watching him run," first baseman Joe Mauer said. "It was pretty fun. Hopefully he can do that a lot."
It was part of a two-run fourth inning for the Twins, but Buxton was stranded at third, as Eduardo Nunez struck out and Brian Dozier grounded out to end the inning.
