MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins called up highly regarded reliever J.T. Chargois from Triple-A Rochester and reinstated right-hander Kyle Gibson from the 15-day disabled list, as right-handers Phil Hughes and Trevor May were placed on the 15-day disabled list before Friday's 8-1 loss to the Red Sox.
Hughes is going on the DL after being hit on his left knee by a line drive by Miami's J.T. Realmuto in Thursday's 10-3 loss.

"We're still waiting on his MRI, which will happen later on [Friday] evening, just to see where he's at," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "We're hoping there's no major injury that would set him back a long time. The conclusion is that it's going to be significant enough that he's going to need some time to recover."
It's another setback in a season full of them for Hughes, whose was removed from the rotation last week with a 1-7 record and an ERA hovering near 6.00.
"He said something [Thursday] night -- 'It's par for the course' or something like that," Molitor said.
May is going on the DL with a back strain. May was held out of action with the back issue before making appearances Wednesday and Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits while recording one out.
"He still thinks that there's something that's not right, that's prohibiting him from being as effective as he needs to be," Molitor said. "Medical minds will meet and talk over what we need to do to try and find the solution."
Chargois, ranked as the club's No. 9 prospect by MLBPipleline.com, posted a 1.12 ERA with 34 strikeouts and nine walks in 24 innings between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester. The 25-year-old has a career 2.05 ERA in the Minors with 109 strikeouts in 88 innings, but underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013, missing the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
"When he's pitched he's been effective," Molitor said. "His numbers are really good -- velocity; a changeup that he trusts, especially to left-handers; a slider that he can put away right-handed hitters with."
Gibson, who had been on the DL since April 23 with a right shoulder strain, is set to rejoin the rotation to start Saturday against the Red Sox. He made three rehab appearances, including starting with Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. He went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts. He was originally set to rejoin Minnesota's rotation on June 2, but his start was pushed back because of lower back stiffness.
"Any time you spend time on the DL, it's not fun," Gibson said. "This was my first extended time not pitching in my Major League career and it was tough. I'm excited to be back out there."
