Sunday's starter TBA with Deadline looming

Lynn still top candidate on trade block; Buxton nearing DL return

July 25th, 2018

TORONTO -- The Twins have yet to announce a starter for Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox, as they currently have six starters in their rotation with lefty still on the roster despite right-hander making his season debut on Wednesday.
After , and Jake Odorizzi start the first three games of the series, the Twins could starter either right-hander on normal rest or go with Mejia on Sunday, but manager Paul Molitor said things are up in the air because of the looming non-waiver Trade Deadline on Tuesday.
Lynn, in the last year of his contract, remains the most likely to be dealt if the Twins are sellers, but's Jon Paul Morosi reported on Wednesday that Gibson is also drawing interest. The Brewers have reportedly checked in on Gibson as well as infielders and .

"Late in July, we're just going day by day to see what happens here," Molitor said. "And we will adjust accordingly as we need to. We'll see where we're at. I know it's Jose's day. Mejia's day as well. We'll see what happens. I really can't clarify that, because nobody knows what's going to happen."
The Twins are taking a wait-and-see approach as far as being sellers as well, entering Wednesday 7 1/2 games behind the Indians in the American League Central. They were swept by the Royals coming out of the All-Star break but bounced back for a series win in Toronto.
"Gloom and doom of getting swept, and then you're back where you started," Molitor said. "You've lost five days and haven't picked up ground, I guess. But the reaction is, two or three games, I talked right after the Kansas City series, the significance of getting swept there coming out of the gate. But it's the unpredictability when there are so many games involved. Just trying to keep doing our part, best we can."
Worth noting
• Center fielder (wrist) could be activated from the Minor League disabled list as early as Thursday. He's been taking batting practice with no issues. Like , Buxton will have to be productive at Triple-A Rochester before returning.
• Reliever (right triceps tightness) said his live bullpen session on Tuesday went well and that he has no more bullpen sessions scheduled before his return. He could be activated from the DL as soon as Thursday in Boston.
• Molitor is set to be featured as part of a three-player bobblehead giveaway at Rogers Centre on Aug. 11. Molitor, along with Roberto Alomar and John Olerud, are being honored for the World Series wins in '92 and '93, although Molitor was only on the '93 squad. Molitor saw an advertisement for it in the ballpark elevator and joked about his appearance.
"I didn't examine it that closely," Molitor said. "Hopefully, it's a younger version."
