MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe exited in the sixth inning of Minnesota's 7-3 loss against the Phillies on Thursday afternoon at Target Field with a mild right groin strain.
"Initially, it really tightened up on me as I was running to first base, and it was even difficult for me to walk off the field," Plouffe said. "But then, it started to loosen up and the doctor came in and evaluated it and said that it's something mild and that we'll evaluate it tomorrow and see how it goes. But I feel pretty good right now."
Plouffe came up limping after running out a ground ball to second base but was able to gingerly walk off the field under his own power. He was replaced at third base by Eduardo Nunez in the top of the seventh inning.
The Twins said the third baseman is day to day.
The 30-year-old had been 0-for-3 with three groundouts off of Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff before his exit. He was coming off of a three-hit game in Minnesota's 6-5 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday and is hitting .250 on the season with five home runs and 23 RBIs.
He missed 13 games earlier this season following a right intercostal strain suffered on April 18.
