TAMPA, Fla. -- Tyler Glasnow got off to a good start Tuesday against the Yankees, but the Rays’ No. 3 starter said he began feeling “a little bit more uncomfortable” as the game went on.

The good side of Glasnow’s outing Tuesday was the fact that the 6-foot-8 right-hander was able to get a pair of strikeouts with the curveball -- including a first-inning strikeout against Giancarlo Stanton -- while getting up to 81 pitches on the mound, plus some more in the bullpen after 3 2/3 innings of work. The bad side was that Glasnow walked four and gave up five earned runs against what could be the Yankees’ Opening Day lineup.

“A day like today, just not having a feel for anything, I kinda beat myself today,” Glasnow said. “Really wouldn’t have mattered who was hitting, but that’s what spring is for, to go up there and get a feel of things and make sure you’re ready to go next time.”

Of Glasnow’s 81 pitches Tuesday, 47 were strikes. Glasnow has been working on his consistency around the strike zone all spring, especially after adding a slight pause before his delivery. He has one more Grapefruit League start before he’s scheduled to pitch on March 30 against the Astros in the regular season.

“Just a little off timing,” Glasnow said. “A little inconsistent right now, but it’ll get there, for sure.”

Despite some of the struggles Tuesday, manager Kevin Cash and catcher Michael Perez, who has caught Glasnow often this spring, have no concerns heading into the season. Perez said that he felt Glasnow had better command with his breaking ball in the Rays' 6-2 loss to the Yankees than in past outings.

“As long as he can throw the breaking ball for strikes and low for the strikeout, paired with the fastball,” Perez said, “he’s going to be money.

“He’s going to be fine. It’s good to face a lineup like that. That’s going to be [the Opening Day] lineup. Being a young pitcher, that’s going to be good for him.”

Roster decisions could be coming soon

There are still a couple of decisions left to be made over the remaining days of camp, and the Rays would like to have most of them out of the way when the team plays its last game in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Friday.

“I think in fairness to the guys, we have to have a strong sense of where we’re at,” Cash said. “The 22nd is when we play our last game in Port Charlotte, and then we go to Lakeland, so we would like to tell a lot of the guys that day.”

Cash did mention there will be some decisions that could come down to the last day, especially the final spots in the bullpen.

“There could still be two or three that are going to have to make the drive and we’ll have to decide upon, which is fine,” Cash said. “But most of them will be defined by then.”

Hunter Wood will start against Boston at 6:05 p.m., and two-way prospect Brendan McKay will start against the Braves at 1:05. Ryne Stanek is scheduled to pitch in a Minor League game Wednesday.
