Vlad Jr. exits with rib injury after slide

BALTIMORE -- A gnarly slide into second base forced Blue Jays rookie sensation Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to exit Wednesday’s 11-10 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards with a left rib injury.

The club does not yet know the extent of Guerrero's ailment, but the 20-year-old had the left side of his body wrapped up in the clubhouse following the game.

After reaching base in the ninth inning on a throwing error, Guerrero slid awkwardly into second base while trying to beat the throw from Trey Mancini, who went to collect the ball that skidded away from him.

Guerrero came up from the awkward tumble and signaled to the dugout for a trainer. He was able to walk off the field under his own power and headed down the tunnel back into the visitors' clubhouse, where he underwent testing that determined the left rib ailment.

It was a dour end to what was a 2-for-6 night for the rookie, who scored a run in the sixth inning thanks to the second of his two singles. All told, Guerrero's September has not been much to write home about, as he owns a .212/.263/.269 slash line this month.
