Buehler, Ruiz win Dodgers' Minors awards

PITTSBURGH -- Right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler and catcher Keibert Ruiz were named respective winners of the Dodgers' Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year Awards.
Buehler, the top prospect in the organization as ranked by MLBPipeline.com, has pitched at three levels this year as a starter, and he is currently in the bullpen for Triple-A Oklahoma City in preparation for a possible September callup to Los Angeles. Buehler is a combined 3-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 83 innings. He was a first-round pick in 2015 who then underwent Tommy John surgery.
Ruiz, 19, has split time this year between low and high Class A teams at Great Lakes and Rancho Cucamonga. In 192 career Minor League games, the switch-hitting catcher has slashed .337 /.379/.473 with 11 homers, 52 doubles and 116 RBIs. He is ranked as the Dodgers' No. 7 prospect by MLBPipeline.com.

Buehler and Ruiz will be presented their awards and honored in a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 23 vs. the Giants.
Ruiz began 2017 by slashing .317/372/.423 in 63 games for Class A Great Lakes and was promoted to Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on July 9. With the Quakes, Ruiz is batting .353 (41-for-116) with six homers, six doubles, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored in 29 games.
