Some days, it takes a little while for the bats to get rolling. Other days, it takes a little while for them to cool off. 

Friday was one of the latter for the University of Washington, as the Huskies put up 21 runs over the first two innings and finished with a cool 32-7 victory over the University of Northern Colorado in their home opener.

The 32 runs are a high mark for the Huskies since at least 1973, and represented a higher total than 41 college baseball teams have totaled so far in the 2023 season. Had Washington stopped scoring after the second inning, it would have been the team's highest run total since trouncing Northern Colorado, 25-8, on Feb. 20, 2019.

The Huskies collected 19 hits in the game, taking advantage of 15 walks, eight hit batsmen and five Bears errors. Washington put up 11 runs in the first, sending 17 batters to the plate. They started the second with back-to-back outs but rebounded to score 10 more times, putting 16 hitters at the dish.

After that, they were held to a meager five runs over the next five frames but broke out to score six more in the bottom of the eighth.

Sam DeCarlo, who collected six RBIs and crossed the plate four times himself, hit the game's lone home run while going 3-for-4 with a walk. Washington catcher Johnny Tincher scored four runs, driving in two with a double and walking three times. A total of five Huskies hitters put together multiple-hit performances, including a 4-for-4 showing by McKay Barney.

The victory made Washington 6-2, and the team hosts Northern Colorado again for a doubleheader on Saturday, with another game on each Sunday and Monday.
