The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Julian Fernández from Triple-A Rochester on Monday and optioned left-handed pitcher Andrew Alvarez on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations Paul Toboni made the announcements.

Fernandez, 30, tossed scoreless relief in eight of nine outings out of Rochester’s bullpen in 2026. He tossed six straight hitless outings (5.2 IP) with six strikeouts and three walks prior to today’s recall. Opposing batters went 0-for-16 against him during this stretch.

In nine outings for the Red Wings, Fernández converted one save, pitched to a 4.70 ERA and a .214 opponents’ batting average. All four runs surrendered this season came in one outing, April 3 vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY).

Fernandez appeared in three games for the Nationals in 2025 after being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Aug. 17. Opponents went 3-for-18 (.167) against him, including 1-for-10 (.100) with the Nationals, in four Major League outings between Los Angeles and Washington.
