Tribe-White Sox postponed; DH on Tuesday

July 27th, 2020

CLEVELAND -- Let’s play two.

After inclement weather postponed Monday’s series opener against the White Sox at Progressive Field, Cleveland and Chicago will play a traditional doubleheader on Tuesday, with the makeup game starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The originally scheduled Tuesday night game will follow the first game after an approximately 45-minute break. Both games will be televised on SportsTime Ohio and broadcast on WTAM and the Indians Radio Network. WMMS will join in to simulcast at 7 p.m.

Instead of pitching on Monday, starter Aaron Civale will now get the ball in the first game on Tuesday against White Sox righty Dylan Cease. And instead of Zach Plesac going on Tuesday, his start will now be pushed back to Wednesday against Lucas Giolito.

For the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Indians will call on Adam Plutko to start. Plutko was in a battle with Plesac for the fifth spot in the rotation throughout Summer Camp, but he was shifted to the bullpen last week. He made one relief appearance in last Wednesday’s exhibition game against the Pirates, tossing one scoreless inning, but he had made two intrasquad starts leading up to that.

Pushing Plesac’s outing back to Wednesday will allow the Indians to line up their ace, Shane Bieber, against their divisional foe Twins on Thursday. Assuming everything remains on schedule, Mike Clevinger, Carlos Carrasco and Civale will get the following three starts in Minnesota.
