White Sox-Tigers postponed; makeup on Aug. 6

Norris and the rest of the rotation all will be pushed back a day

April 20th, 2019

DETROIT -- The Tigers almost made it through their opening month without a rainout at home, but a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon in Motown washed out those hopes. Saturday’s Tigers-White Sox game was postponed, to be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Saturday’s forecast called for rain all afternoon, with chilly temperatures lingering after that. Neither side wanted to wait. The White Sox aren’t scheduled to return to Detroit until a three-game series in August. That will now be a four-game series, with a doubleheader in the middle. First pitches will be scheduled for 1:10 and 7:10 p.m. ET.

Tickets for Saturday’s rainout will be valid for the first game of the Aug. 6 doubleheader.

Saturday’s rainout marks the second time a start has been postponed. Unlike last Friday at Minnesota, the Tigers will keep Norris in the rotation rather than put him back in the bullpen. Norris will start Sunday’s series finale, with everybody else pushed back a day.

“He needs to pitch,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “We can’t keep messing around with this kid. He needs to pitch and I want him to pitch.”
