CHICAGO -- Right shin splints left Yoan Moncada out of the White Sox lineup in Texas on Saturday and Sunday.
So when the top prospect in the game, per MLBPipeline.com, departed Thursday's 5-1 victory over the Twins in the top of the sixth, it figured to be more of the same from this ongoing problem.
But the White Sox second baseman said the shin splints felt a little different this time around.
"I think that this time, more than soreness I felt pain," Moncada said through interpreter Billy Russo. "I don't think it's going to be something worse. It's just like a pain."
Moncada drew a walk from Jose Berrios to open the fourth during the White Sox second straight victory and third in five games over the playoff-contending Twins. Moncada picked up his first career stolen base and then scored from second on Nicky Delmonico's infield grounder, ruled an error on first baseman Mitch Garver.

But that run home aggravated the issue. White Sox manager Rick Renteria talked to Moncada once he reached the dugout. He will have a MRI of the affected area taken Friday morning.
"Then we are going to see after that," Moncada said. "When I hit third base, I misstepped the base and didn't count the steps. That was when I got a little sore again."
"When he stepped on the bag coming around to score on the play, he said he stepped on it wrong, and he felt it in his shin," Renteria said. "So tomorrow we're going to have an MRI on it, just a progression and follow-up to what they've been looking at, to make sure he's OK. Day to day."

Center fielder Leury Garcia left the game after the third inning. He struck out to end the frame and was bothered by a stiff right back/back spasms. Alen Hanson replaced Garcia in right field, while Yolmer Sanchez moved from third to second and Tyler Saladino took over at third.
With Avisail Garcia joining his family for the birth of his son, Avi, the White Sox were left without a position player in reserve after Saladino entered the contest. Renteria thought of putting catcher Kevan Smith, who served as designated hitter Thursday, at second base if one of his infielders got hurt or if someone were needed in the outfield.
Winning pitcher Derek Holland added that fellow starter James Shields was getting taped up and ready in the clubhouse, just in case. Even if Avisail Garcia, Moncada and Leury Garcia are unavailable for Friday's opener against the Tigers, Renteria doesn't seem worried about not having a position player on the bench.
"I can't tell you where we'll be at until we see how they're feeling tomorrow morning," Renteria said. "And if that's the case, I have some pitchers in there too that are pretty good athletes."
