Playing against your brother in a Major League game is one thing. How about throwing him out on the bases?
That’s exactly what happened between the Brewers and Cardinals at Milwaukee’s American Family Field, when William Contreras threw out his brother, Willson Contreras, at second base in the seventh inning.
Blocking a ball in the dirt from Milwaukee’s Aaron Ashby, the younger Contreras corralled the ball in front of him and upon getting to his feet, saw his older brother trying to make it to second base. William uncorked a one-hopper to the bag that got Willson in plenty of time.
The two brothers have gotten more familiar with each other on the baseball field since the 2023 season. Willson was already a long-tenured member in the NL Central after spending his first seven years with the Cubs, and stayed in the division after signing a five-year deal with the Cardinals before the 2023 season. William, meanwhile, was part of the massive three-team trade in Dec. 2022 that sent him to the Brewers and Sean Murphy to the Braves.
