Godzilla to be given 'Pride of the Yankees Award' at annual dinner event

TAMPA, Fla. -- Hideki Matsui will be honored with this year's "Pride of the Yankees Award" at the 37th Annual Yankees Homecoming Dinner, to be held on April 4 in New York.
Matsui was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2009 World Series, collecting six RBIs in the title-clinching Game 6 of the Fall Classic as the Yankees celebrated their 27th World Series championship.
A power-hitting outfielder, "Godzilla" spent seven seasons in pinstripes following a successful 10-year career in Japan, batting .292 with 140 home runs and 597 RBIs from 2003-09.
The 37th annual Yankees Homecoming Dinner will be held at the Sheraton New York Times Square following the team's Opening Day contest against the Houston Astros, with the reception scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and dinner set for 7:30 p.m.
