Yanks-Tribe ALDS Game 2: In Real Life
The Indians beat the Yankees, 9-8, after 13 innings on Friday night in Game 2 of the American League Division Series presented by Doosan. We were on the scene in and around Progressive Field.

10:17 p.m. ET: Friday the 13th
Five hours and 13 innings later, the Indians erased a five-run deficit and came back to defeat the Yankees thanks to Yan Gomes' walk-off RBI single down the left-field line. Cleveland heads to New York up 2-0 in the ALDS.
9:27 p.m. ET: Straying too far
With pinch-runner Ronald Torreyes on second with no outs in the top of the 11th, Cody Allen delivered his first pitch to Brett Gardner. The pitch missed off the plate, but catcher Gomes fired an 80.4-mph throw after a 1.88-second pop time -- tying for his best mark for an out at second this year -- to second to pick off Torreyes. Torreyes was initially ruled safe, but after a challenge, the call was overturned.

8:24 p.m. ET: #RallyTogether in The Land
After he homered in Game 1 on Thursday, Jay Bruce came through yet again for the Indians. Bruce led off the eighth inning with an opposite-field home run to the bleachers off reliever Player Page for David Robertson to draw the game even at 8.
8:10 p.m. ET: Hitters beware
Trailing by one run entering the eighth, the Indians brought in relief ace Andrew Miller.
7:54 p.m. ET: All smiles
With one swing of the bat, Francisco Lindor put the Indians right back in the game. Lindor belted a two-out grand slam off the right-field foul pole in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to 8-7. Per Statcast™, Lindor's slam traveled a projected 408 feet. That is the fifth grand slam in Tribe postseason history, and the first since Jim Thome in 1999. More >

Aaron Hicks broke a 3-3 score when he launched a three-run homer to the seats in right off Corey Kluber. The big fly marked Hicks' first career postseason home run, and it brought Kluber's day to an end.

Edwin Encarnacion exited with a right ankle sprain when his foot struck second base trying to avoid being doubled off. He had to be carried off the field by training staff. It came moments after Cleveland rallied from a two-run deficit. More >

After being shut out in Game 1, the Yankees wasted no time getting on the board on Friday. Following Aaron Judge's one-out walk against Kluber, Gary Sanchez hit a 3-1 cutter on the outer half of the plate over the wall in center for a two-run homer. According to Statcast™, Sanchez's first career postseason home run had an exit velocity of 103.6 mph and traveled a projected 406 feet. More >

While Indians left fielder Michael Brantley is not in the starting lineup for Game 2, manager Terry Francona said that the plan is to have the All-Star outfielder pinch-hit at some point in Friday's game. Francona noted that Brantley could then be starting for Sunday's Game 3 in New York. Brantley missed the majority of the final two months of the season with a right ankle ligament injury.

"The fact of what we went through and that experience we had last year certainly helps build confidence," Miller said. "There's a lot of familiar faces. Most guys on the team were there last year. We added Austin [Jackson]. We added Edwin. ... Those are veteran guys that are going to contribute and have that experience, as well."
