The Yankees have fortified the back end of their rotation, agreeing to a one-year deal to bring back right-hander Luke Weaver, the club announced Friday.

The deal is worth $2 million and includes a club option for 2025 that could increase the value to as high as $8.25 million, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

Weaver was claimed off waivers by New York in September last season and made three starts for the team. He was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings, with his best outing coming against Arizona (5 1/3 scoreless frames).

The 30-year-old right-hander was a first-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2014 Draft and made his debut with St. Louis in 2016. He was traded to Arizona as part of the blockbuster 2018 deal that sent former MVP Paul Goldschmidt to the Cardinals. Weaver's first season with Arizona was his best in the bigs, with a 2.94 ERA in 12 starts over 64 1/3 innings.

The Yankees have a strong top of the rotation in reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole, southpaw Carlos Rodón and Marcus Stroman, who signed a two-year, $37 million deal earlier in the week.
