NEW YORK -- As the Orioles and Yankees prepare to meet for a four-game series in the Bronx that carries postseason implications, Thursday’s scheduled game was postponed due to a forecast of persistent inclement weather.

The two teams will play a straight doubleheader on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Both contests will be seven innings.

Right-handers Alex Cobb and Gerrit Cole will comprise the pitching matchup in Game 1. Left-hander Keegan Akin is set to face right-hander Masahiro Tanaka in Game 2, which will start approximately 35 minutes following the conclusion of the first game, but no earlier than 7:05 p.m.

“We've gone through a rough patch,” said Yankees left-hander Zack Britton. “I do feel like there's maybe a little sigh of relief there that we got a win [on Wednesday against the Blue Jays]. Now we’re looking forward to hopefully getting on a roll here against the Orioles.”

If the season ended on Thursday, the Yankees (22-21) would hold the eighth postseason seed in the American League, good for entry into a Wild Card Series matchup against the No. 1 seed Rays. The Orioles (20-22) are aiming to catch New York in the playoff chase.

“I think we’re taking this like it’s another day,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “I think the mood in the clubhouse today is no different than it was a month ago. We know what we’re up against here, playing a really good club. It’s going to be a dogfight this weekend. We know that, and I think our guys are up for it.”
