The Yankees' Top 30 Prospects list is loaded with pitching depth and that talent was certainly on display Wednesday night.
With 22 of the organization's top 30 prospects residing on the mound, there's bound to be nights like Wednesday, when starters across the minors combined to give up one earned run over 22 innings.
Chance Adams, the Yankees' No. 7 prospect, fired five scoreless innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Domingo Acevedo (No. 9) gave up two runs, one earned, in five innings with Double-A Trenton, while Trevor Stephan (No. 15) and Glenn Otto (No. 20) each hurled six scoreless for Class A Advanced Tampa and Class A Charleston.
Adams was hit hard in his first start, giving up five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, and things looked to be a bit rocky again as Lehigh Valley put runners on base in each of the first three innings. However, Adams was able to keep them off the board and eventually settled down, retiring the final eight batters he faced.
Acevedo walked the leadoff man in both the first and second innings and although he avoided trouble in the first, he wasn't quite as lucky in the second as Cavan Biggio -- Craig's son -- came around to score. An error would allow a second run to cross the plate and although Acevedo struggled with command -- he walked four in five innings -- he limited the damage to just the two runs on two hits.
Stephan matched his career-high with seven strikeouts for the second time in as many starts this season. The right-hander, who gave up just three hits, also showed strong control as he didn't walk a batter and fired 53 of his 85 pitches for strikes.
Otto gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings in his full-season debut, but his second start went much smoother. The 2017 fifth-round selection did walk four in six innings, but struck out five and yielded just one hit as he strung together zeros on the scoreboard.
