The Yankees have agreed to a Minor League deal with right-hander Trevor Rosenthal, a source told MLB.com on Tuesday. The deal was first reported by MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Rosenthal, 29, elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Tigers earlier this month.

After missing all of 2018 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, the veteran reliever signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Nationals last November. However, he recorded a 13.50 ERA with a 2.41 WHIP in 15 1/3 innings spanning 22 appearances with Washington and was released in June.

The Tigers picked him up on a Minor League contract and called him up to the Majors on July 15. He initially showed some improvement, allowing two earned runs over his first eight games with the team, but he was designated for assignment after yielding five runs over two appearances on Aug. 7-8.

Prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2017, Rosenthal had a career 2.99 ERA with 435 strikeouts in 325 innings, and he saved 93 games for the Cardinals over 2014-15.
