WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gómez from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations.
Gómez, 26, appeared in nine games for the Rays this season, striking out 13 batters in 17.1 innings pitched, while holding right-handed hitters to a .161 (5-for-31) batting average with a .411 OPS. The Nirgua, Venezuela native has pitched in parts of four major league seasons for the New York Yankees (2023-25), Los Angeles Dodgers (2025), Chicago White Sox (2025) and Rays (2026), going 3-3 with a 5.11 ERA (93.1 IP, 53 ER), two saves, 44 walks, 85 strikeouts and a .251 opponent batting average in 36 games (9 starts).
To make room for Gómez on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Christian Roa for release or assignment. Roa was acquired off waivers from Houston on April 23 and appeared in three games for Triple-A St. Paul. Gómez will be activated at a later date.
